Lotus Counseling psychotherapists, share a blog on National Kissing Day:
June 22 is National Kissing Day. Kissing is one of the many ways we show love to our partners. It is an intimate act that benefits us as individuals, and helps to foster feelings of love and closeness for couples.
Couples often call our offices looking for help to create more intimacy and passion in their relationship. Their lives are busy – with work, children, obligations – and they want to reconnect with their partner.
It is totally normal for the excitement and passion to ebb and flow in a long term relationship… but there are ways to keep that spark alive. And one of the best ways is to kiss!
Kissing is scientifically proven to increase levels of oxytocin and to release endorphins, our body’s natural ways to calm us down and to make us feel good.
Kissing your partner forges a deeper connection, and solidifies you as a couple.
We recommend that couples pick a time each day, set a timer for 3 minutes, and spend that time kissing. No matter how busy we are, we can all find 3 minutes in our day. Doing this exercise for a week helps couples get back into the habit of being intimate with each other… and then they’ve taken a first step towards a healthy and fulfilling intimate relationship.
